Are Some of Us Set Up for Failure?

Have you ever entered a situation where you were already feeling defeated? Did you ever go into something knowing that it was a bad move?

Well, this tends to happen quite often in life.

Sometimes, we enter a new situation with initially high hopes only to have them completely shattered once we realize the reality of the circumstances.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again many times in my writing — I’m a big believer in “Everything happens for a reason”.

I’ve been in a lot of shitty, uncomfortable situations in my life (mostly throughout my early twenties) and I’ve often felt the weight of failure through those experiences.

At the time when it was happening, I was miserable of course, but over the years, I eventually discovered the lessons that came out of them.

However, now looking back in hindsight, I’m noticing that some of those situations could have easily been avoided had I just thought things through a little more.

This brings me to the question of fate versus free will.

Is there always some small part of us that subconsciously knows that things likely aren’t going to work out in our favor? Or are we unknowingly doomed upon entering a bad situation?

Of course, it all depends on the situation, right?

We obviously can’t predict the future and there are many things that we couldn’t have possibly known beforehand.

For example, we can’t blame a person who wound up in an abusive relationship and say that it was their fault or that they should have figured it out right away.

We can’t tell someone that they were wrong for taking a job that they ended up being miserable at — How could they have known until they tried it?

We can’t point fingers at people in these kinds of situations.
