5 apps to help you succeed in 2020

It’s not just about Slack and Zoom

It’s crazy to think that at the beginning of the decade, apps were mostly for entertainment purposes and not the driver of new industries and multi-billion dollar companies. Today apps are a part of everything we do; from creating resumes, to editing videos, and even maintaining your teams Kanban board. Finding the best (and right) apps among the millions available in the App Store can be a daunting task. As a business leaders and entrepreneurs, you have other things to attend to so we went ahead and put together a list of the top 5 apps in 2020 that you need to download to help your business succeed.

Slack has taken the App Store by storm this past year as communication has become increasingly more important as business functions get more complex and remote work is taking place. Direct and transparent communication dramatically improves the work culture and efficiency, an area that Slack excels at. As we embrace the era of remote technology in the workplace, emails can be too formal and time consuming, while a text or phone call are too intrusive. What Slack offers is beyond the standard communication of emailing or texting; it creates a community for employees, especially during COVID-19, to talk about their latest projects and brainstorm new ideas. In many ways, Slack is the new water cooler, just digital.

A few great features of Slack include the ability to organize communications by creating multiple channels, a much needed option for companies with multiple divisions and teams as well as the ability to send private messages, make video/audio calls, share your screen, and send files. And that’s still scratching the surface of what the powerful, but easy-to-use app has to offer.

A personal favorite, Robinhood does the unthinkable: Wall Street trading for the average Joe. If you’ve ever stopped and thought about investing in Apple in the early 2000s, or Microsoft, or even Tesla six months earlier, Robinhood is the app for you with recommendations and business jargon for everyone without a degree in economics. Another unique feature they offer is Robinhood Snack, which provides you with a daily dose of financial news via a newsletter that makes it easy to keep up with an every changing market. Given the current circumstances with the pandemic, market volatility is at an all time high, and whether you’re looking to make a quick buck, or start a long-term investment portfolio, Robinhoods got you covered.

Nearly invisible to anyone outside of the corporate world, Zoom, the extremely popular video calling app is now used by kids, adults, and everyone in between in just about every type of business. From browser support to a native app for your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Windows machine, Zoom makes collaborating with just a few people (or hundreds!) a breeze. With powerful integration with other apps and free tiers, it’s no wonder Zoom is now the industry and household standard when it comes to video chatting. Here are a couple of tips to get the most out of Zoom Meeting:

If you’re interested in the overall business market or political economics, I personally recommend a subscription for the Wall Street Journal. Access to the WSJ is quite inexpensive costing $1 a week for 12 weeks. The Wall Street Journal covers anything from national economic trends, market information and updates, and politics as well. WSJ is the perfect option for business leaders or entrepreneurs.

The Mighty Networks app is a great way to connect with those in the Starts With Who network and stay posted on our latest articles and content. Best of all, it offers a host of rich features like easy content posting, messaging, and notifications so you don’t miss out on our highly coveted Morning Huddles or Book of the Month recommendations.

Like so many of us who partially live on Zoom, there’s even easy integration between the two apps so you can jump straight from the Mighty Networks app to our daily Morning Huddles!

With most of us working remotely in some form or fashion, having these 5 apps on your mobile device will help you better adapt to the new norm and stay on top of your business.

We might all be stuck in doors but that doesn’t mean we need to give up on collaborating (Zoom, Slack) — and just because we’re on the move from room-to-room while juggling our now home schooled kids doesn’t mean we should miss a beat in the market (WSJ, Robinhood). Last but not least, a community that helps us with our personal growth is perhaps more important then ever. Through the Mighty Networks app in conjunction with Starts With Who, you can can become better leader that inspire the next generation to live with stronger habits and mindset.

What are the 3 apps you’ve found indispensable in 2020?
