The Valentines Scholarship

The subject itself mentions what this post is really about. Its my story of receiving the Google India Challenge Scholarship 2018 which started on Valentines day.

Here is a little about me:
Being born and bred in the city of dreams- Mumbai, I always knew I wanted to become something big, but was very unsure with what exactly. Life at 23 is full of what-ifs and uncertainty. But I knew that my dreams were all I had. Having had an I.T background and a work experience of one year, it wasn’t still easy as there were many who were looking for new skills and programming languages on the resume along with certain work experience. I needed a push and something to brush up to my programming skills so I applied for the scholarship program on Udacity’s website.

My Scholarship Journey:

It was 7th of February, 8:34 am to be precise when I received an email from the Udacity Scholarship Team. I was dreading to open the email as I was so sure that it would have been an email stating that I haven’t been selected for the Scholarship. But then, that morning had a complete different story. I got selected and was offered the Google India Challenge Scholarship for the Front End track.

The scholarship program started on Valentines Day- 14th February and I will never forget how excited I was and looking forward to start this journey. After getting started, I thought all of a sudden there was too much to learn by the course itself. Slack and discussion forum at first were a mess. Flooded with so many messages at the same time but then with time the community made it so much more easier and convenient.

Talking about the community, its because of the students who I interacted with helped me grow with the number of doubts and posts posted by my peers and thus deepened my hunger to learn more. It was the best way to learn and interact with students from different parts of India. We were a community constantly helping our peers. It was because of them that I could even complete the course before time due to their constant encouragement and support. The AMA sessions taken by our mentor Akshit, made sure that we were comfortable in the course. Special thanks to all our mentors of the Front end Track, who ensured to review our projects, provided us answers to our technical queries and guided us by providing improvements. Our mentors were like our superheroes coming to our rescue whenever we needed them.

What I gained out of the course:

The main thing what I gained out of this course was my confidence to code and being positive on becoming a developer. I plan to re-arrange my life and work in this field with the knowledge I have gained from this course.

I now know that I am on the right track, learning the right way by practising to code everyday and implementing the skills I learnt from this course.
Today is nearly the end of the Phase 1. Only 350 students will be selected for Phase 2 and I can’t wait for the results to be announced. I don’t know if I will be selected or not, but today I am proud to have received such a beautiful life changing journey. A journey which really helped me figure out what I want to do, a journey of a #googleudacityscholar.

A big thank you to Google and Udacity for giving me this scholarship and the best Valentines Day ever in my life. I feel grateful, proud and blessed that I was one amongst the many who received this opportunity to grow.

Also, I’d like to thank Geeta, Vidit, Aman and Arshi for always being there for me and lending me a hand whenever I asked for.
