How to be single in your 20s

I am afraid that in the age of 23 my life is not what I thought it’s going to be. From the very young age we are stuffed with fairy tales about beautiful princesses locked up in the towers by evil…

My digital mums journey

I spent a long time stalking digital mums from afar. I dabbled in the idea and then would find a reason not to do it. Then back again. Then I just couldn’t get it out of the back of my mind.

We moved house and have a baby so my old career (which expected your soul in return for the pleasure of employment) wasn’t going to work anymore. So I heard it was the last intake and decided to nervously take the plunge.

I had tried a career change already and this hadn’t worked out so my nerves were through the roof. I also haven’t ‘studied’ anything for so long that I was worried I wouldn’t be able to do it or just wouldn’t have the time. I have worked in agencies with SM teams before so I was familiar with it but my forte was project management and not being creative.

I spent those early days of the course agonising over my campaign and decided to go with a food campaign called @FoodFolke which was all about promoting all the great places to eat in Folkestone as a newbie in town. It was a great excuse to get out there and go and explore the town.

I have really enjoyed my campaign but it hasn’t been without it’s challenges. It is hard thinking creatively all the time but not having much free time without my toddler was the hardest. Given that I have had to visit all these restaurants aswell as doing the coursework and running the campaign, it has been a real strain on my time (and wallet). I tried to engage with restaurants to glean content from them but small business owners did not have the time to offer so I ended up creating everything. It was a hard slog but I’m really proud of what I achieved! When you get a message from someone saying they have found their new favourite restaurant because of you, it does give you a glow.

As a newbie in the area, I do feel like I have earnt myself respect and contacts which I wouldn’t have had without my campaign. I am now regularly tagged in food posts and have restaurants contacting me asking me to come along. People are really appreciative of the coverage and I am happy to offer it.

Digital mums has been a tough and all immersive course but it has been so worth it. I now feel like I have the confidence and evidence to show I can run a campaign to potential clients and I am really proud of everything I have achieved. The ladies running it are experts and this shines through in the training.

As for what the future holds…..who knows at the moment. I am definitely going to continue Food Folke and I would love to help other food businesses in the area with their social media.

More Than a Report Card

It was freshman year. At the end of the year, I got my report card in the mail. On that report card was something both me and my parents had never seen on one of my report cards before: a “B”! This…
